Each Team is structured so that its tickets collectively cover every possible Powerball (or Mega Ball) number. Because the winning bonus number is guaranteed to be held by exactly one ticket in the Team, every Team is guaranteed to match the bonus ball on every drawing it plays — securing at least the applicable game's minimum prize for that match.
This guarantee applies at the Team level. It does not mean every individual ticket wins a prize on every drawing — the other tickets in the Team hold different bonus-ball numbers and are evaluated under the standard prize tiers for whatever white-ball numbers they hold.
Prize winnings on the Team's guaranteed bonus-ball match are shared among Team members according to the Team's payout structure (see Payout Structure page).

Marketing copy on this site refers to second-prize odds of "about 1 in 12 million." This is a blended average of the official Match-5 (no bonus ball) odds for Powerball (1 in 11,688,053.52) and Mega Millions (1 in 12,607,306.09), which averages to approximately 1 in 12,147,680.
This figure describes the standard, government-published odds of the second-highest prize tier in each game. It applies to any ticket, whether purchased individually or through a Team, and is not created or altered by our Team coverage strategy.
Our Team coverage strategy is specifically designed around the bonus ball number (Powerball or Mega Ball), not the white-ball numbers.
Because every Team covers all possible bonus-ball numbers, every Team is guaranteed to hold at least one ticket that matches the bonus ball on every drawing. The exact dollar value of that guaranteed win varies by game and by state rules, as follows:
The nationally published prize for this tier is $4. However, California pays non-jackpot Powerball prizes on a pari-mutuel basis — the actual dollar amount is determined by ticket sales and the number of winners in that specific drawing, and is not fixed. On a California-issued ticket, this guaranteed win may be above, at, or below $4 depending on the drawing. Certified California results for each drawing determine the exact amount paid.
As of the current game rules, every Mega Millions ticket costs $5 and includes a randomly assigned built-in multiplier (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X) that applies to all non-jackpot prizes, including this tier. The base Mega Ball–only prize is multiplied accordingly, producing a guaranteed win of at least $10 — which is above the $5 ticket price. As with Powerball, California pays non-jackpot Mega Millions prizes on a pari-mutuel basis, so the exact amount on a California ticket may vary from the standard multiplier chart.
In both cases, this guaranteed prize is shared among Team members per the Team's payout structure. This guarantee applies to the Team's minimum win — it is not a guarantee that any specific player's individual ticket wins a prize on any given drawing, nor a guarantee of a specific fixed dollar amount on California tickets.
